Sample Life Insurance Rates

Below you will get an idea of how much you’ll pay for life insurance based on your age, gender and health.

We work with dozens of life insurance companies to ensure you will find the best rated policy but it’s important to speak to a live agent because each company has their unique underwriting guidelines. When one company might offer the best rates when it comes to something simple like your height and weight, another company might be more stringent with there build charts and offer the second best rate instead.

There are many factors that go into underwriting, here a few:

  • Gender. Women generally live longer than men thus typically pay a lot less for their life insurance.
  • Age. This one is simple. The younger you are the less you’ll pay.
  • Health. Underwriters look at your overall health such as pre-existing conditions like heart disease, diabetes, strokes, anxiety/depression, sleep apnea, alcohol/drug abuse, tobacco use, blood pressure/cholesterol, etc.
  • Family History. Underwriters will also want to know about family history of serious health conditions such as heart disease, cancer, strokes or diabetes.
  • Driving Record. All companies have different guidelines when it comes to driving history. If you have DUIs or major traffic violations on your record within the last few years, the insurance company may charge you a higher premium because of it.
  • Occupation and Lifestyle. If you are a Helicopter pilot or a professional race car driver than you can expect to pay more than someone who is a school teacher for example.

The Term Is Also A Big Factor In Your Life Insurance Premium

The longer the term the more expensive the policy. There are 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 year term options available.

For example, in the blue table above a 50 year Male looking for a $500,000 policy for a 10 year term would pay $41 per month if they qualified for the #1 rate class, Super Preferred. If they wanted to purchase a 20 year policy instead that premium would be $76 per month for the same coverage, almost double.

How Do I Know Which Rate Class I am In?

There are at least 12 different rate classes you could be approved for. Starting from the #1 rate class, Super Preferred all the way to a substandard rating called Table 8. This all depends on your medical history and labs at the time of the exam. This is why it’s so important to speak with a licensed insurance agent so they can accurately assess which rate class you will qualify for based on all of the medical questions asked during the application process. An online quote is just that, an online quote. We try to avoid surprises on the back end by asking the right questions on the front end before you actually apply for the policy.

As you can see from the sample quotes above, searching for life insurance can be a bit confusing with all of the different rate classes out there, especially when it comes to how much coverage you need or which term length is right for you.
